Degree condition aimed to keep Nasrullah at bay: PM
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said the condition of holding degree to become member of the parliament was imposed to keep Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan out from the assembly.
Addressing in National Assembly, Gilani said it is a duty of Election Commission to check the authenticity of the degree. Degrees of several assembly members have been challenged in the court and only after court’s decision, it will be appropriate to declare anyone’s degree as fake.
Prime Minister said that graduation is not mandatory for contesting elections. All parties except MQM had opposed the condition of graduation. Fake degrees are ruining parliament and political parties should discourage such elements.
About Jamsheed Dasti, Gilani said he has accepted the party’s decision as a senior vice president. Also, he asked the members to strengthen parliament.
