KARACHI: The SHC on Friday issued notices to the Federal Ministry of Interior and former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf on a petition seeking to nominate them as respondents in the May 12 carnage case. Over 50 people were killed and hundreds injured when violence erupted on May 12, 2007 when then deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry arrived in the city to address a lawyer’s rally. Human rights activist Iqbal Kazmi had filed a petition seeking a judicial inquiry into the killings and nominated MQM chief Altaf Hussain, Sindh Home Adviser Waseem Akhtar, Home Secretary Brig (r) Ghulam Muhammad Mohtarrum, the Sindh Rangers DG, Sindh PPO Niaz Ahmed Siddiqui, Karachi CCPO Azhar Farooqui, Sindh CM Arbab Ghulam Rahim, the City Courts Police Station SHO and Jamshed Quarters Police Station SHO as respondents in the case. Afterwards, he also nominated Musharraf as a respondent in the case and alleged that he had enough evidence to prove that the former president was involved in the mayhem.
