FIA unearths four-member gang of gold smugglers

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has unearthed a four-member gang which allegedly smuggled 279 kilogrammes of gold worth Rs 1 billion to Dubai, sources said on Monday. According to sources, the agency has decided to question the officials of the Airport Security Force (ASF), Customs, and Commerce Ministry as it was not possible to consign the precious metal at such a large scale without their help. The gold scam came to light on May 1 when the FIA arrested Imran Nawaz from the Allama Iqbal International Airport and recovered 28.361kg gold from him. It is alleged that Nawaz, proprietor of Hunain Enterprises, had permission to export gold ornaments weighing 250kg to Dubai, but he transported 80kg gold without going through any legal formality or maintaining any record. Punjab FIA Director Muhammad Azam Joiya
said that all those involved in the scam would face the law. aaj kal report
