Naik reserves ruling on CCP amend issue
By Tahir Niaz
ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Farooq Naik on Monday reserved ruling on the issue raised by various senators regarding amendment to the Code of Civil Procedure (Code of Civil Procedure Amendment Bill 2010) by the Senate.
Naik said the matter was now a provincial subject following the passage of the 18th Amendment. A few days ago, the Senate passed the Code of Civil Procedure (Amendment) Bill, 2010 which aims at bringing changes in the Code of Civil Procedure 1908.
The National Assembly has already passed the bill and it has been forwarded to the president for his assent. Senators Zafar Ali Shah and Raza Rabbani were of the view that since the issue was a provincial matter now, parliament had no authority to amend the same. They asked the senate chairman to ask the Presidency to return the Bill, but the chairman, however, reserved his ruling into the matter.
