Notices issued to Zardari, his children, Nusrat Bhutto

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) issued notices to Asif Ali Zardari, Begum Nusrat Bhutto and Gulzar Baigum in case regarding the transfer of Sheikh Zayad Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Trust’s assets.

The court approved the petition and issued notices to the sides.

Also, the legal heirs of Bilawal, Asifa and Bakhtawar have been issued notices through President Asif Ali Zardari.

A three-member SC bench headed by Justice Shakirulllah Jan heard the case.

The petitioner Aslam Khaki pleaded to the court to issue a stay order against Federal Shariat Court (FSC) ruling. Bench member Justice Saqib Nisar said the court would not issue any stay order until the sides are given proper opportunity to apprise the court of their viewpoints.

The hearing was adjourned till sine die.

It should be mentioned that in a decision handed down last month, the Federal Shariat Court got reversed the 1977 orders of the then CMLA Ziaul Haq to take over control of two trusts, founded by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto with the financial support of UAE rulers, owning huge properties in different parts of the country.

These trusts were renamed as Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan Trust and Sheikh Sultan Trust.

The FSC judgment while declaring the 1977 martial law orders as repugnant to Islam, has directed the Government of Pakistan and its ministries and divisions to return the ownership, properties and assets of these two government-controlled trusts to the heirs of Benazir Bhutto and Begum Nusrat Bhutto.
