Mirza sees political motives behind Karachi unrest

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has said nearly 200 people have been arrested from various parts of Karachi in connection with target killings and violence.

Interacting with media persons here on Thursday, he said political motives could be involved in a recent spree of target killings, in which 28 people have lost their lives.

The home minister said additional contingent of police and rangers have been deployed in tense areas.

“I strongly denounce the killings of 23 innocent people in the metropolis for the last two days,” he said.

Mirza admitted that there were some political motives behind the Karachi unrest. He, however, hoped that the provincial government would succeed in bringing the situation under control soon.

He observed that some criminal elements were also exploiting the situation.
