Pakistan to take sovereign decision on military operation: FO

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan will take a sovereign decision as to when and where to conduct a military operation, Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Abdul Basit said on Thursday. Basit, responding to questions about the possibility of a full-fledged military operation in North Waziristan allegedly under pressure from the US said, “Be it the Tribal Areas or any other part, Pakistan will proceed in accordance with its own priorities and plans.” He said the US had approached Pakistan for opening up of a Consulate in Quetta and the request is currently being processed. Basit said Pakistan and the US were working together to expedite the issuance of visas. He clarified that except India there was no fixed quota for diplomatic presence of any country in Pakistan. “Pakistan and India have a mutual agreement about maximum number of personnel in their respective high commissions in Islamabad and New Delhi”, Basit said. The FO spokesman said Pakistan strongly condemned the publication of blasphemous caricatures on Facebook and YouTube. staff report/app
