Kashmir issue should be solved through talks: Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Despite Pakistan’s own regional challenges, it remains committed to a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir issue through negotiations and dialogue, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Monday.
He said that it was imperative to end the long legacy of hostility and distrust to work towards a peaceful resolution of the dispute in accordance with the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
The PM said this while talking to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) President Raja Zulqarnain Khan and Prime Minister Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider who called on him at the Prime Minister’s House.
He said that Pakistan would continue to support the cause of the people of Kashmir.
Commenting on the development activities in AJK, Gilani said that effective monitoring of the ongoing projects would ensure their timely completion. He said that the funds allocated for the projects would be released on time and they should be utilised efficiently so that maximum relief could be provided to the masses.
Earlier, while chairing a meeting to review the performance of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA), Gilani emphasised on further improving coordination among all the stakeholders to ensure that reconstruction efforts in earthquake affected areas in AJK and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa do not slow down.
