Govt should implement SC decisions: Nawaz

MURREE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz believes in independence of the judiciary and the government must ensure implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit, party chief Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday.

Nawaz was addressing a press conference after chairing a high-level meeting of his party. He said the meeting reviewed the prevailing political situation and dwelt on national issues.

He reiterated his party’s demand that the government should not include beneficiaries of the National Reconciliation Ordinance in the cabinet.

The PML-N leader also said the government must utilise all its resources for the welfare of the underprivileged section of the society and improve the living standards of the common man.

He criticised the government for not tackling the energy crisis effectively, adding it should exploit all available resources to end the load shedding crisis.

Nawaz highlighted the importance of constructing new water reservoirs to meet the growing energy demand in the country.

He urged the government to ensure the upcoming federal budget 2010-11 is pro-people, keeping in view the sufferings of the common man. He said the government should evolve an effective strategy to control the increasing prices of various items and unemployment in the country. He was of the view that good governance and rule of law are keys to attaining progress and prosperity. app
