Government determined to protect constitution: PM

DINGA: If all state institutions work within the ambit of the constitution, it would ensure development of the country and progress and prosperity of the masses, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Thursday, reiterating the government’s determination to follow and protect the constitution and law.

“We want to follow and protect the constitution and law. We want all institutions to work within the ambit of the constitution. If all institutions play their roles within the parameters of the constitution, it would ensure development of the country and progress and prosperity of the poor masses,” the PM stressed.

Gilani was addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the supply of sui gas to Dinga city, where he also announced various development projects for the area.

He said the government’s politics of reconciliation had yielded positive results in the form of the National Finance Commission Award, 18th Amendment, autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan, Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package etc.

Gilani said the present government was committed to the welfare of masses and has initiated various projects for the socio-economic development of the people. He referred to the government’s Benazir Income Support Programme and said waiving off electricity bills – from 200 to 300 units – of poor workers was being contemplated under the scheme.

The PM said the government was also striving to bring in a health insurance scheme under the BISP initiative to provide free health facilities to the poor segments of society.

Gilani also announced various development projects for the area, including brick-lining of a sewerage passing through Dinga city to protect the area’s residents from environmental hazards. app
