Gilani to visit China next week

BEIJING/ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani is to visit China next week to hold talks with Chinese leadership on important bilateral and regional issues. The premier will pay an official visit to China from May 17-20 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao. “Prime Minister Gilani will begin the four-day visit on May 17,” a government official said. In Beijing, China’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said that Pakistan prime minister would meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao. “This year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Pakistan and is also jointly designated by the leadership of both the sides as the ‘China-Pakistan Friendship Year’,” Jiang Yu said at a regular news briefing. “Leaders of the two countries will exchange views on bilateral relations and promote practical cooperation across the border as well as other issues of common interest.” “We are satisfied with the status quo of our bilateral relations and we are full of confidence in the prospects of China-Pakistan relations,” Jiang added. agencies
