Kerry to visit Pakistan to mend ties after bin Laden
WASHINGTON: Amid tensions between the United States and Pakistan over the killing of Osama bin Laden, a top US senator said Tuesday he will visit Islamabad seeking to mend ties and answer troubling questions. US Senator John Kerry said he hoped to resolve some of the puzzles lingering since the al Qaeda leader was finally tracked down to a Pakistani compound after a decade-long global hunt. “There are some serious questions, obviously, there are some serious issues that we’ve just got to find a way to resolve together,” he told reporters, adding he would raise “all relevant issues” surrounding bin Laden’s death. Kerry, who chairs the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said he would travel to Pakistan early next week “to get a dialogue going about the aftermath, and how we get on the right track.” Meanwhile, Pakistan welcomed a forthcoming visit by Kerry, saying it would help ease mistrust after bin Laden. Information Minister Firdaus Ashaq Awan said that the visit would help in efforts “to minimise the trust deficit”. “There are concerns from our side and there are concerns from their side also. We should address these concerns,” the minister said. agencies
