Pakistani scholars leave for France
LAHORE: Ambassador of France to Pakistan, Daniel Jounneau, hosted a reception at his residence on May 11 to award Higher Education Commission (HEC) and French Scholarships to 17 Pakistani laureates for the fellowship programme, both for “Split-PhD” and post-doctorate in different fields. They will leave for France early next month to conduct their scientific studies, which will last for nine months.
The batch of 2011 are true representatives of Pakistan as they hail from different parts of the country: Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Karachi, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan. They are working in different fields: pharmacy, business administration, virology and immunology, biotechnology and genetic engineering, microbiology, chemical and materials engineering, chemistry, electrical engineering and computer science, plant pathology, information and communication technology, food science and technology, history and international relations, telecommunications, social sciences and statistics. They will be joining one of the best French research institutions and laboratories.
While congratulating the laureates, Ambassador Jouanneau expressed the pleasure of the French Embassy in Pakistan in co-financing the programme with the HEC of Pakistan. Eight scientists were able to join the best French research laboratories in 2010 and it was quite a great success to have more than six joint-publications as a result.
The HEC and the French Embassy in Pakistan aim to help the development of cooperation between French and Pakistani scientific organisations engaged in R&D programmes of all scientific and technological fields. In this framework, the HEC and the French Embassy in Pakistan have launched a joint programme for research mobility. This fellowship programme is intended for highly qualified Pakistani doctoral and post-doctoral scientists and offers them an excellent opportunity to conduct research in France for six to nine months.
The French cooperation with Pakistan in higher education and scientific domains increases every year. France will continue on with the HEC for research fellowships in 2012. pr
