ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that Pakistan would continue its cooperation to eliminate terrorism to ensure global peace yet Pakistan’s sovereignty should be respected.
“My government’s main concern is sovereignty of Pakistan,” he said, adding, ‘the government will never compromise on the honour and dignity of Pakistanis.”
According to a press release issued from the PM House, the prime minister talked to the British Prime Minister David Cameron over telephone Sunday afternoon. Cameron telephoned Gilani to commiserate the killings of over 90 Frontier Constabulary personnel in a suicide attack in Charsadda.
The British prime minister said that British people acknowledged the immense sacrifices of Pakistan and had full realisation of the country and government’s losses. He appreciated the role of Pakistan in the war on terror.
Acknowledging political difficulties of the government, he assured Prime Minister Gilani his country’s full support to Pakistan.
Prime Minister Gilani thanked the British prime minister for his message of commiseration and told his British counterpart that Pakistan could not be cowed down by such cowardly attacks.
Gilani reiterated that Pakistan was waging war on terror in its own national interest and this campaign enjoyed ownership of the Pakistani people.
He said that Pakistan is committed to working with the rest of the world to eradicate terrorism and the world should also take care of Pakistan’s interests.
