Pakistan must refuse foreign aid: Nawaz

KARACHI: Pakistan must demonstrate some self-respect and refuse foreign aid before it is withdrawn, said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief, Nawaz Sharif.
He expressed these views on Monday after his visit to Mazar-e-Quaid. He was on a three-day visit to Karachi. Speaking on the occasion, he said that it was time to “break the begging bowl” and Pakistan must refuse both foreign aid and avoid being dictated to ensure our national esteem and integrity.
While talking about the rising price hike and load shedding, he stressed the need of transparency and said that the government should reduce its expenditure immediately to tackle the ongoing financial crisis, being faced by the nation. He hoped that Pakistan could be dragged out of the ongoing worsening situation through unity and joint efforts of nation.
He held the ruling Pakistan People’s Party responsible for the lack of hydel and thermal power projects. He termed the present spree of load shedding, a severe and serious issue which was affecting the entire country.
Earlier, Nawaz Sharif chaired a meeting of all the district heads of the city. Following the meeting, while talking to media, PML-N leader Saad Rafique said that PML-N had been pursuing anti-establishment politics for two decades.
He said that in Punjab they provided everyone with an open opportunity to perform political activity and his party had the right to continue its activities in the city of Karachi and it would do just that. He further said that target killers and extortionists had prevailed in Karachi and the need of the hour was to bestow freedom to the city from all these criminal activities. Rafique said that the PML-N is ready to support democracy and democratic behaviour. The party will continue its struggle for the supremacy of democracy, he concluded.
