MQM-H chief Amir Khan released on bail
Staff Report
KARACHI: Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi (MQM-H) chief Amir Khan was released from the Central Prison Karachi on Monday.
The Sindh Home Department withdrew an order of Khan’s detention under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) for 30 days. The MPO was issued on May 9, just after the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted him bail.
Khan was sentenced life imprisonment by the Additional District and Session Judge in the murder case of Farooque Qureshi, a worker of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement. A single bench of the SHC, comprising Justice Ghulam Sarwar Korai, was hearing an appeal filed by Afaq Ahmad and Amir Khan. The appeal was filed under section 426 CrPC. During the hearing, sentence was suspended and the appellant was released on bail. It may be mentioned here that under the law when a court grants bail to any convicted accused, his conviction remains suspended. However, IG Jails Ghulam Qadir Thebo did not confirm Khan’s release when contacted
