NEC to approve Rs 720 billion PSDP for 2011-12 today

* Federal component of proposed PSDP totals Rs 280 billion

ISLAMABAD: The National Economic Council (NEC), in its meeting today (Saturday), is likely to approve a Rs 720 billion Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2011-12 and macroeconomic framework, sources told Daily Times on Friday.

The NEC meeting would be headed by Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, who would give final approval to the development outlay of the country, including the federal PSDP 2011-12 and allocations for the Annual Development Plans (ADPs) of all four provinces. The federal component of the proposed PSDP is Rs 280 billion, the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) is earmarked Rs 10 billion and the provinces Rs 430 billion, the sources said. The sum total of all these allocation will be Rs 720 billion for the year 2011-12.

The sectoral wise breakdown of the proposed Rs 280 billion federal component of PSDP is: infrastructure sector Rs 136 billion, social sector Rs 133.7 billion, and production related projects Rs10.3 billion. Under the federal component of the PSDP, the federal ministries would get Rs 190 billion, special programmes are likely to get Rs 20 billion in 2011-12 and corporations are likely to get Rs 70 billion. The total sum of the federal component is Rs 280 billion for the year 2011-12, the sources added.

The sources also claimed that allocation in PSDP 2011-12 for provinces had been enhanced to Rs 430 billion while last year it was Rs 373 billion, showing an increase of 15 percent. The provinces would utilise their PSDP through their respective ADPs for the year 2011-12.

Under the federal component of PSDP of Rs 280 billion, the allocations for federal ministries are: Water and Power (Water Sector) Rs 33 billion, the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission Rs 22 billion, Finance Division Rs 6.984 billion, Railways Division Rs 14.5 billion, Planning and Development Division Rs 40.1 billion, Higher Education Commission Rs 14 billion, Industries Production Division Rs 3.5 billion, Interior Division Rs 5.895 billion, Defence Division Rs 4.003 billion, Housing and Works Division Rs 1.227 billion, Cabinet Division Rs 2.822 billion, Science and Technology Research Division Rs 2.002 billion, Law and Justice Division Rs 1 billion, Revenue Division Rs 1.5 billion, Petroleum and Natural Resources Division Rs 650 million, Information Technology and Telecom Division Rs 1 billion and the Defence Production Division Rs1.5 billion.
