Yaum-e-Shuhada observed at Lahore Garrison
LAHORE: Yaum-e-Shuhada to commemorate the sacrifices rendered by the armed forces was observed with solemnity at the Lahore Garrison on Monday.
Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant General Rashad Mahmood along with Brigadier (r) Abdul Qayyum Sher (Hilal-e-Jurrat) attended a special ceremony held to pay tribute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. A smartly turned out contingent of the Punjab Regiment presented the salute. A large number of serving and retired officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army and families of the soldiers killed participated in the ceremony.
Addressing the ceremony, the corps commander said the history of Pakistan Army was replete with chapters of valour and sacrifices.
He said that great nations cherished the selfless services rendered by their sons and “this special ceremony to honour our martyrs amply testifies that they live in our hearts”.
Mahmood said the officers and men of Pakistan Army had always served their people with dedication both during war and peace. He said that since creation of Pakistan, more than 16,000 officers and soldiers had laid down their lives to safeguard sovereignty and integrity of the motherland. The corps commander commended the sacrifices and resilience of the families of the soldiers killed for the security and integrity of the country, adding that the nation stood by them in the hour of trial. He reiterated the resolve to defend the national frontiers, urging the soldiers to spare no effort to maintain the defence of the country. pr
