Parliament recommendations to decide future of Pak-US relations

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says future contours of relations with the United States will be based on recommendations passed by the Parliament.

At a news briefing on Thursday‚ Foreign Office spokesman Moazzam Ahmad said no decision has yet been taken on restoration of NATO supply line through Pakistan. "We are currently in process of finalizing work plan for effective implementation of parliamentary recommendations. All decisions will be made in accordance with these recommendations," he stressed.

He said Pak-US relations are "important and there is desire on both sides to come up with mutually acceptable resolution of all issues. US Special Envoy for Pakistan & Afghanistan Marc Grossman recently visited Islamabad during which all issues were discussed with him. Both sides shared their concerns and perspectives on different issues."

About upcoming NATO Summit on Afghanistan in Chicago, spokesman said Pakistan has not yet taken any decision to attend the summit in Chicago.

On recent US drone attack in tribal areas‚ he said "we have repeatedly made it clear to the US that these are unacceptable. We regard drone strikes as illegal‚ counterproductive of our integrity and sovereignty. It is in our mutual interest that the US respects recommendations of our parliament."

He noted Pakistan's sacrifices in war against terrorism‚ and said nobody should have any doubt about "our unwavering resolve and determination to fight the menace. We are pursuing a well thought out anti terrorism policy and expect partners will also show more understanding and patience in their conduct."
