Gilani should have resigned on conviction day: Nawaz
GARHI KHERO: Pakistan Muslim League-N President Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday said Yusuf Raza Gilani should have stepped down from his office on the same day the Supreme Court had convicted him in contempt of court case.
"You (PM Gilani) chose to stand by President Zardari, now face the music because it is now too late for you to do anything to help yourself," Nawaz Sharif said during his address to a public meeting here, hours after the apex court announced its detailed verdict against Prime Minister Gilani in contempt of court case.
Referring to Prime Minister's scheduled meeting with the British PM in UK, he said it pains him to think what kind of impression the British Prime Minister would have about our PM when they come face to face.
He said the government has plunged the country deep into the mire of corruption and President Zardari has failed to deliver the goods even for the people of Sindh let alone the entire nation.
Lashing out at the PPP-led government's performance, he questioned as to what kind of public service it delivered for the people of Sindh. "Not even a katcha house was made for poor, no school or teacher for their children, no hospital and no employment opportunities for the people of Sindh," he lamented.
Nawaz Sharif said the unprecedented price hike has broken the back of the poor while the country has been thrown into corruption and its sovereignty put at stake.
"I have no desire for power or wish to govern the country; all I want is the welfare and prosperity of the people of Pakistan," he said.
