Indian SC allows Dr Khalil Chishti to travel to Pakistan
NEW DELHI: The Indian Supreme Court has allowed Dr Khalil Chishti to travel back home to Pakistan on humanitarian grounds.
The Supreme Court was hearing the petition moved by the Pakistani scientist who was awarded a life term in a 20 year old murder case.
According to Indian media reports, Dr Chishti will have to deposit Rs 500,000 and his passport at the Indian High Commission. Chishti has also been ordered to return to India on November 1.
Speaking to Geo News, Dr. Chishti said he would travel back to Pakistan in the next five to ten days and thanked the Indian Supreme Court.
Chishti appealed to the Pakistani government to also release Indian prisoners. When asked who he would meet first when in Pakistan, Dr. Chishti replied that he would meet his elder brother.
