Asghar Khan case: Younis Habib's plea bargain report presented

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has presented a report before the Supreme Court (SC) about Younis Habib’s plea bargain in an accountability case, Geo News reported Thursday.

A three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, is seized with a petition filed by Air Marshal Asghar Khan (retd) some 16 years ago against the distribution of millions of rupees by the ISI among the anti-PPP politicians to manipulate the 1990 elections.

The amount was allegedly disbursed by then army chief General Mirza Aslam Beg (retd), former director general ISI Lt Gen Asad Durrani (retd) and defunct Mehran Bank's chief Younis Habib.

The leaders of Jamat-e-Islami were also present in the SC today to witness the proceedings.

The NAB presented the plea bargain report while Asghar Khan's counsel Salman Akram Raja presented Mehran Bank and Habib Bank probe reports.

The court had allowed Salman Raja to acquire the said reports from Geo News anchor Hamid Mir, which have been missing from official records.

Aslam Beg's lawyer Akram Sheikh requested the court to make his client's statement regarding the scam and probe reports part of official record, which the court allowed.

Later the hearing was adjourned till May 17.
