Malik says he will become party in Mehran Bank case
* Interior minister says he will not let Nawaz go scot-free
* Appeals CJP to take notice of Sharifs’ statements against PM
ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday asked the chief justice of Pakistan to allow him to become party in the Mehran Bank case.
Addressing a press conference after chairing a meeting to review security situation in the country, Malik said he would like to assist the court so that the truth in Mehrangate comes forward to the nation.
The minister said that he would not let Nawaz Sharif run away in the Mehran Bank scandal as he would become a party in the case.
Malik said Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif are issuing political statements, contemptuous to courts and casting doubts in legal process.
“I appeal to the chief justice of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of statements of Nawaz and Shahbaz and others, consider to issue orders to stop them from giving contemptuous statements to end the controversy in greater interest of the nation,” he said.
He said Nawaz was raising a hue and cry and making issues but he would not be allowed to run rather he should concentrate on bringing back the precious money to Pakistan he sent abroad through laundering. Otherwise the money would be brought back through Interpol, he added.
He said the matter relating to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was still under judicial process until the decision of final appeal, so assuming the role of a bailiff or implementer by the Sharif brothers should cease to exist.
Malik said the “Mian brothers” needed to wait until an appeal is submitted and a final decision of the court is announced.
“It is a law that the accused is given right of appeal, hence, Gilani has the right to avail all legal available remedies without any interference. The Islamabad High Court has also given a verdict that till the PM avails all legal remedies he cannot be stopped,” the minister replied a question. app
