PM Gilani will file appeal against SC contempt verdict: Fauzia Wahab

CHAKWAL: PPP leader Dr. Fauzia Wahab said Sunday that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani would file an appeal against the Supreme Court’s verdict in the contempt of court case.

“The prime minister has until June 5 to file an appeal and will do so before this day,” Wahab said.

Wahab added that even if the Supreme Court upheld its verdict it would then go to the National Assembly speaker after which it would be sent to the Election Commission. According to Wahab the PPP would complete its five year tenure during this period.

On April 26, the Supreme Court convicted Prime Minister Gilani of contempt of court for failing to write to Swiss authorities to open corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari. Gilani said he did not write the letter because he was upholding the constitution under which the president has immunity at home and abroad.

The opposition led by the PML-N has repeatedly called for Prime Minister Gilani to resign following the conviction.
