Top bureaucrats summoned in Balochistan case
QUETTA: The Supreme Court (SC) has summoned the interior, defence and the principal secretaries to the prime minister and Balochistan governor tomorrow over the Balochistan law and order issue, Geo News reported.A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry resumed hearing of the Balochistan law and order and missing persons case.
During proceedings the Chief Justice remarked that the time to suspend officials had passed and the court would now have to take some action.
The CJ noted that missing persons was Balochistan's burning issue and after observing no headway by federal intelligence agencies the court was left with no option but to summon the federal secretaries.
Advocate General of Balochistan, Amanullah Kinrani informed the court that five missing persons, who disappeared from different areas of Quetta, have been recovered from Karachi and three of them were being interrogated for their involvement in Lyari violence.
The AG also told the bench that there are evidences that intelligence agencies are involved in kidnapping of 16 men.
The President of the Balochistan High Court Bar Association informed the bench hearing the case that 18 journalists had been killed in the province, to which the Chief Justice ordered cases to be registered.
While hearing the Balochistan law and order case, the Supreme Court ordered that all unregistered cars and motorcycles be seized within 15 days. The court observed that custom officials let these vehicles pass after taking bribes.
The Chief Justice was also accorded guard of honour upon his arrival at the Supreme Court's Quetta Registry.
