Power tariff raised by Rs 2.38 per unit
ISLAMABAD: While the entire nation has been facing treacherous scheduled and unscheduled power load shedding, NEPRA on Tuesday announced an increase in power tariff of up to Rs 2.38 per unit against fuel adjustment charges for the months of February and March. According to a notification issued by NEPRA, this massive increase has been made in the head of monthly fuel adjustment at Rs 0.59 per unit for the month of February and Rs 1.79 for March, to be paid in the electricity bills of September and October, respectively.
After the increase, electricity consumers would pay additional amount to power distribution companies against the electricity consumed during months of February and March. However, NEPRA member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shaukat Ali Kundi, recorded strong protest in his dissenting note against authority’s decision of such massive price hike. The NEPRA notification says the recent increase would not be applicable to consumers using up to 50 units as well as consumers of KESC, however, the Water and Power Ministry had increased power tariff by up to 16 percent for all distribution companies as well as KESC on May 16. staff report
