Relationship with Pakistan ‘one of the most complicated we’ve had’: US Defence Secretary

WASHINGTON: US Defence Secretary Leon Panetta called the US relationship with Pakistan “one of the most complicated we’ve had.”

Panetta during an interview to ABC described relations with Pakistan as up and down and stated that country was still critical in that region of the world.

The US Defence Secretary also reiterated his criticism of Dr. Shakil Afridi’s conviction and said the doctor was not working against Pakistan. He added that the sentence was disturbing as Dr. Afridi had helped in the search for the “most notorious terrorist in our times.”

When asked about the war in Afghanistan, Panetta replied that US still had a fight on their hands.

AFP Adds: US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta vowed Sunday not to let the United States be "gouged" by Pakistan on the price it charges for overland deliveries of American military supplies to Afghanistan.

We're not about to get gouged in the price. We want a fair price," Panetta said.
