Number of missing persons increasing: PM Gilani
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said that Army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will attend a meeting to discuss the missing persons issue on Tuesday. The meeting will also be attended by federal, provincial representatives along with the heads of law enforcement agencies.
During an interview on ‘Capital Talk’ Prime Minister Gilani admitted that the number of missing persons was once again on the rise.
During its last hearing of the missing persons case, Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had remarked that if Prime Minister Gilani failed to act than the constitution would do its job and all options including emergency could be explored.
When asked about loadshedding and Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif taking part in protests, Gilani replied that someone should ask Sharif who had stopped provinces from generating electricity.
“It has never happened before that the provincial government has taken part in protests against the federal government.”
Prime Minister Gilani also spoke of the dual nationality issue stating that dual nationals have the right to become members of Parliament and there was no restriction on this in the constitution.
On Dr. Shakil Afridi, Gilani said the Pakistani Physician sentenced to 33 years for treason has a right to defend himself and should be granted access to higher courts.
Prime Minister Gilani’s interview on ‘Capital Talk’ will be broadcast on Monday night (28 May, 2012) at 8:03 PM PST.
