Establishment a hurdle in JUI’s success: Fazl

* JUI-F chief says party will emerge as biggest force if transparent elections held

* ‘Loyalists of foreigners’ won’t be allowed to enforce their policies on the poor

By Mohammad Zafar

QUETTA: Establishment is a hurdle in the way of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI), and if transparent elections are conducted, the JUI will emerge as the biggest party in the country, claimed Fazlur Rehman, the chief of his own faction of the JUI.

“The indifferent attitude of the establishment has forced the Baloch youth to move to mountains and wage a war for their rights,” he said while addressing the Islam Zindabad Conference held in Kalat. The JUI-F chief said that establishment was becoming a constant hurdle in the development of the country. “If it stops its confrontational policy, we will accept it as a national institution,” he said. “If the establishment continues to hatch conspiracies and interfere in politics, it should not expect any respect from us.”

Fazlur Rehman said that Kalat state still reminded him of the period when it consented to affiliate with Pakistan, but “unfortunately, despite a lapse of 64 years, the dreams of Muslims could not be materialised; rather they were shattered”.

“After getting rid of British slavery, today we have been forced to become slaves of America,” he said, adding that the JUI, by rejecting the politics of “arms and sticks”, steered the nation out of the darkness and became a ray of hope for the people.

He said that the JUI had frustrated the efforts to divert the country from its ideological path and the constitution, in which Islam had been declared as the religion of the country.

The JUI-F leader said that through the political process, the party reduced the hold of sardars, nawabs and landlords in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, and now the downtrodden segment of society were feeling free.

“When we can’t tolerate the people having the mindset of landlords and capitalists, how can we bear the dominance of America in our own land?” he said, adding that the ‘loyalists of foreigners’ would not be allowed to dominate and enforce their polices on the poor people.

Fazlur Rehman said that when the sense of deprivation would transform into a sense of slavery, it would become more difficult to control the situation.

He said that those who opposed the “marvellous civilisation, culture and Islamic traditions of their forefathers were respected, while those raising their voices against cruelty and injustice were being called dictators”.

“We have to show the right path to the youth, and face those promoting Jewish civilisation,” he said.

He said that Pakistan had unfortunately become a militant state instead of a welfare state, “which has become a camp for Western war against Afghanistan, and became unsafe”.

The JUI-F leader said the defence force should avoid taking interest in wars and politics, as the daily expenditure of the army was more than the annual budget of education and health.

“We are not against reduction of defence expenditures, but we also want improvement in the living standards of an ordinary man,” he said, adding that the Aghaz-e-Haqooq-e-Balochistan package and other rhetoric of the government had lost their credibility, as the people no longer trusted its hollow claims.
