Dr Afridi sentence is wrong, says US State Department
WASHINGTON: United States on Tuesday said that it believed Dr Shakil Afridi's sentence was wrong, adding that he should not have been locked up or charged in the first place, according to the state department.
During a daily press briefing, the state department's spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said "We've been absolutely clear, publicly and privately, that we think it's wrong he's locked up, we think it's wrong that he's being prosecuted."
She said that Dr Afridi did a service not only for the United States but for Pakistan as well.
"And that in fact the role that he (Dr Afridi) played did a service not only for the world and the United States but obviously for the security of Pakistan. This was one of the biggest killers out there."
