I don’t have British citizenship, says Malik
By Asif Mehmood
LONDON: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Tuesday claimed he did not have British citizenship.
Addressing a ceremony of the UK Pakistan Chamber of Commerce in London, he said that although he was not a British national, he would take all possible steps for Pakistanis settled overseas, adding that a special cell would be constituted for them.
He said that there was discrepancy in the law regarding dual citizenship and he would move court against this law.
The minister said that security and investment go hand in hand and “we are doing everything to provide investors a secure environment”. He said the role of overseas Pakistanis in development of Pakistan could not be negated.
Earlier, the minister met his British counterpart Theresa May and discussed issues of mutual interest.
British Home Office declined to comment or to give out any statement regarding Rehman Malik’s British nationality, and said that the ministry did not discuss the case of any individual.
