Sarabjit Singh’s body leaves for India
LAHORE: The body of Sarabjit Singh has left from Lahore for Amritsar, India. Upon arrival another post mortem of Singh will be conducted. India had sent a special plane to take Singh’s body back to his ancestral village.
The body left from Pakistan after receiving clearance from Customs and Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) officials. The body had been stopped from leaving Pakistan by customs officials who sought a NoC from the Foreign Ministry and the police report. After the body was cleared by Customs, it was stopped by ANF officials who sought a clearance certificate from the hospital.
Earlier, Indian High Commission officials received the body of Sarabjit and his body will be taken to Amritsar on a special plane sent from New Delhi.
Singh who was a convicted Indian spy and terrorist died after suffering a cardiac arrest at Jinnah Hospital where he was under treatment for serious wounds inflicted on him by his fellow inmates who attacked him on April 26 at Kot Lakhpat jail.
Meanwhile, Foreign Office spokesman, Aziz Ahmed Chaudhry expressed sorrow over the incident and hoped Pakistani prisoners in India would not be assaulted. In a conversation with Geo News, Chaudhry said Pak-India relations would not be affected by the incident.
