Balochistan teachers agree to perform election duty
QUETTA: The Government Teachers Association on Thursday announced that provincial government teachers perform their duties in the elections following successful negotiations with the government. Teachers would be deployed at the polling stations located in the proximity of their homes and would leave for the polling station under the supervision of army and Elite Force personnel, sources said. Munir Ahmed Badini, a former education secretary and member of the monitoring team of Chief Minister Muhammad Nawaz Jattak, Muhammad Qasim of GTA and others talked to media after successful negotiations. Muhammad Qasim said that they had no demand other than provision of security to the teachers, and after getting surety of foolproof security from Islamabad the provincial government teachers’ associations announced to perform its duties. He said that their demands, which included that teachers be appointed at polling stations close to their homes and be provided pick and drop with complete security, were accepted by the government. Meanwhile, Munir Badini called the decision of GTA a positive step and said that the election duty is an official duty for the teachers and they must perform their duties. He also contradicted rumours that the salaries of the teachers had been suspended and added that no one would be allowed to take law into his hands. staff report
