PML-N fears hung parliament from elections

* Party claims its way to power being blocked under a conspiracy

* PPP, its allies trying to get into govt by engineering split mandate

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has expressed the fear that its way into power is being blocked and sees a conspiracy behind this.

This has strengthened the apprehension of a hung parliament after the upcoming general elections. The PML-N is striving hard to secure at least simple majority in the National Assembly in the elections to form the next government. However, it appears restless after feeling the heat of its political rivals, especially Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who can divide its vote bank.

“The ‘agents of change’ are playing in the hands of conspirators to bring in a hung parliament to block the way of PML-N,” PML-N Central Information Secretary Mushahidullah Khan told the media persons on Thursday. In an apparent reference to the PTI, Mushahid said that those raising the slogans of “Naya Pakistan” are agents of those who want a split mandate from the general polls so that a hung parliament could be brought.

He accused the alleged conspirators of getting together against the PML-N, saying that they all are working on a one-point agenda to block its way to power. “The coalition partners of previous government are now relying on a hung parliament to again grab power,” he claimed. Khan noted that the former ruling party, PPP, and its allies have nothing in hand to present to the people to seek vote and are trying to get into government by engineering a split mandate. He said that the PML-N would bury all such conspiracies during the general polls.

The PML-N leader said that the forces striving for a “New Pakistan” have no vision and resources as well as no experience, and the country, which is already in a state of crises, could not afford to be put through more tests. He alleged that the “forces of change” are misleading the youth and their conduct is giving birth to hatred in society. Khan accused them of having no clarity of mind on various issues.

Sometimes they resort to slogans of Islam and Islamic state and at other times they start talking about the “thana culture”, he added. “What sort of change is it that is limited to character assassination of Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mian Shahbaz Sharif only,” he questioned. About the roadmap of the PML-N for the future of the country, the PML-N information secretary said that it is striving to bond the people from all walks of life that have been badly traumatised by terrorism and hatred in the past.
