No compromise on law and order: IG
LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Aftab Sultan on Sunday reiterated that there would be no compromise on the holding of free, fair and transparent elections. He said that all out efforts are being made to maintain law and order across the province and the police would not crumble under any political pressure. “No one will be allowed to take the law in his hands to achieve ulterior motives and create law and order situation and whosoever violates will face the wrath of law irrespective of social status,” he claimed. On the other hand, he hoped that all political parties, their supporters and candidates will strictly adhere to the code of conduct formulated by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). The IG said that his force was extending full support to the ECP. He said additional police force will be deployed at all 40,078 polling stations for 49,297,879 voters in 148 National Assembly and 297 Punjab Assembly constituencies and wherever required the services of troops of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers will be acquired for assistance. The IG said that all Regional Police Officers, Capital City Police Officers and District Police Officers will be personally responsible for law and order in their respective jurisdiction failing which strict action will be taken against them. Aftab Sultan warned all Sub Divisional Police Officers and Station House Officers to behave politely with aggrieved people who visit police stations for seeking justice and register their cases without any hitch. Meanwhile over 1,300 officials of Mujahid Squad will perform duty in 3,359 polling stations in the provincial capital to maintain law and order on the election day. SP Mujahid Romail Akram said about 35 mobile vehicles of Mujahid Squad would patrol polling stations besides an additional force in all polling stations. However, a special squad of Elite Force will work as a reserve force for any emergency situation, he added. agencies
