PML-N losing ground fast, says Raja Riaz

LAHORE: Raja Riaz, former leader of opposition in Punjab Assembly, has said in a statement on Tuesday that the Sharif brothers were losing ground among the people with every passing day as their credentials as believers in democracy were becoming increasingly doubtful “due to their soft corner for the terrorists”.

Riaz said the PML-N has proved itself as the political wing of the terrorist and extremist organisations beyond any shadow of doubt, as it has awarded party tickets to figures known to have affiliations with religious extremist organisations.

He said PML-N candidates Chaudhry Abid Raza from NA-107 Gujrat and Ebad Dogar from NA-178 Muzaffargarh are suspected of links with terrorist organisations.

He recalled that Ebad Dogar had announced Rs 20 million bounty for the assassination of former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer for his support to blasphemy convict Aasia Bibi.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder of Taseer but was acquitted by the court. He said the terrorists were reciprocating to the PML-N by allowing it a free field during the election campaign while denying the same to the “moderate and democratic parties”.

Riaz said the impression is further reinforced by the fact that Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif have not condemned the cold-blooded murders of the PPP, MQM and ANP candidates and workers by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and neither have they condoled with the bereaved families as yet.

Despite being reminded by the media their silence gives credence to their understanding with terrorist and extremists organisations, he said. Riaz said that people were the best judge and they were watching the conduct and leanings of all parties and they would cast their votes in favour of those who were striving for the Pakistan envisioned by the founder of the nation and not the Pakistan of Taliban.

He said that Nawaz Sharif tried to bring an amendment in the constitution in 1998 to declare himself as the Ameerul Momineen but it was rejected by the Senate because the majority of the House members belonged to the democratic forces. pr
