Vote campaign halts for one day over Imran injury
Staff Report
LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif suspended election campaign on Wednesday in tribute to rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan, who received serious head and back injuries after falling off a forklift at an election gathering on Tuesday.
Doctors said on Wednesday they expect Imran to make a full recovery despite fracturing his spine. The retired cricket star suffered several fractured vertebrae and a broken rib on Tuesday when he fell from a lift raising him onto the stage at a rally in Lahore.
Imran’ condition was quite stable on Wednesday but he was still unable to move because of a minor left rib fracture and backbone pain. This was stated by Shaukat Khanam Memorial Cancer Hospital CEO Dr Faisal Sultan during a media briefing outside the hospital on Wednesday.
He further said that according to the CT scan report there was no sign of head injury. Dr Faisal said that a team of doctors has advised two-week bed rest to Imran. He said that he could not sit due to a minor fracture in one of his left ribs. He added that Imran’s condition was quite stable, but he would remain in the hospital for the next two or three days. Senior party leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said PTI’s campaign finale – a rally outside parliament in Islamabad – would go ahead as planned on Thursday evening.
