Peaceful election victory of entire nation: ECP Secretary
ISLAMABAD: Election Commission Secretary Ishtiaq Ahmed Khan said on Sunday that the first phase of election had passed peacefully which was the victory of the entire nation.
Addressing a press conference, he said that results from 44 constituencies of the National Assembly and 122 from provincial assemblies had been received by the electoral body while Returning Officers were busy in preparing results in the rest of constituencies.
He said that counting of ballots was being carried out as per law. To a question, he said that it was mandatory to convene session of the National Assembly within 21 after the election, adding that Speaker, Deputy Speaker and prime minister are elected within 60 days.
The secretary said that those candidates, who won from more than one constituency, would have to decide to retain one seat. Khan said that by-election of the vacated seats would be held in July.
