Widespread protests over alleged rigged polls
LAHORE: Candidates losing in May 11 elections staging widespread protest demonstrations, sit-ins in different cities/towns of the country, Geo News reported on Monday.
Muslim League-N activists demonstrated over rigged poll in NA-208 outside the Jacobabad press club and later the demonstrators staged sit-in in front of the office of Returning Officer. Elahi Bukhsh Soomro, Muhammadmian Soomro, the ML-N candidates for national and provincial assemblies also participated in the demo. The administration had called for the Rangers and Army to meet any eventuality.
ML-N including the 10-party alliance rejected the election results in Dadu. The candidates of the 10-party alliance with hundreds of supporters staged sit-in at SP Chowk and demanded re-polling in supervision of Army.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists also staged protest demo outside Hyderabad press club over alleged irregularities in polling.
Former Governor Ghulam Mustafa Khar’s supporters staged protest demo over rigging in Muzaffargarh NA-176 outside the office of Returning Officer, which led to a clash between the police and the demonstrators, who also pelted stones on police mobiles. Ghulam Mustafa Khar has refused to accept the results of NA-176.
Muttahida Deeni Mohaz protested over alleged riggings in Jhang NA-89 and PP-78. Maulan Ahmad Ludhianvi has demanded recounting of the votes.
Hafiz Inamur Rahman a candidate for Bannu PK-71 protested at Township Chowk, while People’s Party candidate for PK-73 Pukhtunyar Khan along with his hundreds of supporters staged protest demo at Bannu Session Court.
Dera Ismail Khan, PPP candidate Senator Waqar Ahmad Khan has blamed that it was not the people but the police and local administration that snatched away victory for Maulana Fazlur Rahman from him.
In Sukkur, Senator Islamuddin Sheikh at a press conference blamed that Khurshid Shah was responsible for the defeat of PPP candidate for PS-1 Haji Anwar Mehar.
