PTI nominates Asad Qaiser as KP CM
LAHORE: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has nominated Asad Qaiser for the post of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister.
Asad Qaiser was nominated during a meeting, which was attended by PTI chairman Imran Khan. He is the provincial president of the PTI. The PTI is currently holding talks with the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and independent candidates to form a coalition government in the province.
The PTI has offered the QWP two posts of minister and one senior minister in an effort to lure the party into the coalition for the government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The PTI needs 63 provincial assembly members to form the government and the JI has formed a committee to chalk out specifics regarding the coalition.
Earlier, the name of Pervaiz Khattak had emerged as the PTI’s choice for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief ministership. Political observers are of the view that Pervaiz Khattak may have been replaced by Asad Qaiser due to the better image of the latter in the party.
PTI workers had protested when Pervaiz Khattak joined the party, accusing him of having a tainted past. However, Pervaiz Khattak made inroads in the party and also managed to secure a very high position in the intra-party elections. On the other hand, Asad Qaiser got the nod due to his long association with the party and his clean record. agencies
