LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif on Monday said that his government would continue its work for the betterment of the people without discrimination and people would get some relief and see positive change in the first 100 days of his government.
While attributing the victory of his party to its performance, Nawaz announced to cut expenditures of the government by 30 percent after forming the government. He was addressing a meeting of the PML-N’s recently elected members of the national and provincial assemblies. Key leadership of the party attended the meeting. Addressing the PML-N candidates who won from Punjab, he said that the people have given his party a mandate to rule for five years, and now his party has the constitutional right to complete its tenure.
Nawaz said that the PML-N has accepted the mandate of all political parties in the recent general elections. He asked the Pakistan People’s Party and Muttahida Qaumi Movement who have a mandate in Sindh, to focus on law and order situation there. He assured the next Sindh government that his party’s government in Centre would help out the Sindh government in solving the problems in the province indiscriminately.
The PML-N chef said that his party had the opportunity to form government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by forming alliance with other political parties who have a good number of seats there, but principally it was the right of the single largest party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, to form the government there. Nawaz confirmed that his party, the PML-N, which has reasonable number of seats in the Balochistan Assembly, would establish a coalition government there and resolve the problems faced by the people of Balochistan.
Speaking about the issue of heavy electricity load shedding across the country, Nawaz said that his government would curtail government expenditure by 30 percent and try to overcome the issue of load shedding in the minimum possible time. Commenting on the issue of Taliban and their offer to hold negotiations with Pakistan and US, Nawaz told the parliamentarians-elect that every issue cannot be resolved through bullet or use of power alone, therefore Taliban’s offer should be taken seriously.
Nawaz said that the PML-N was all set to rid the country of all sorts of problems and crises, including energy shortage and terrorism, despite meagre resources and a heavy debt burden left by the previous government. He welcomed all the party’s elected representatives and those independent parliamentarians who joined the Nawaz League. The PML-N leader stressed the need for keeping the country supreme instead of merely doing politics and asked the newly elected members to make a firm resolve to render all possible services for Pakistan and its people.
The PML-N supremo said that May 11 proved to be a day of judgment and such kind of accountability refined the nations, as the people had given mandate to those parties, which remained in touch with them and resolved their problems. “You saw the fate of the party which delivered nothing during five years in government,” he said in an indirect jibe at the PPP. He said PML-N did not resort to any negative election campaign and strictly adhered to the code of ethic.
It is worth mentioning here that before the parliamentary party’s meeting, the negotiation team of the PML-N headed by Shahbaz Sharif met Nawaz at his residence in Raiwind and informed him about their talks with Baloch leaders for the formation of party’s government in Balochistan. Separately, a delegation of six MNAs’-elect from FATA also held a meeting with the PML-N president and announced their joining the party. The delegation comprised Muhammad Nazir Khan, Haji Sajid Tori, Shadi Gul, Bismillah Khan, Bilal Rehman and GG Jamal.
