Karachiites suffer as power cut surge up to 10 hours

KARACHI: With increasing heatwave in Karachi, power outages in parts of the city have also surged, making lives of the citizens miserable.

On the other hand, Bin Qasim Power Plant has also shut due to shortage of gas supply.

According to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), the power outages in Karachi increased due to reduction in gas supply, while exempted areas of the city are also facing load shedding.

The residents of Karachi continued to suffer as power outages reached up to 10 hours daily coupled with the increased temperature in the city.

The KESC spokesman said that Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) supplied only 150 MMCFD gas on average in the month of May which is very low against the requirement of 276 MMCFD.

It said the electricity demand for Karachi has touched record 2650 MWs and to meet this unprecedented high demand KESC requires stable gas supply of at least 276 MMCFD.

Meanwhile, Bin Qasim Power plant has also shut due to lack of gas supply to the power plant, ridding the system of 560MW.
