Power crisis intensifies, shortfall exceeds 5,000 megawatts

LAHORE: Power shortfall across the country has reached 5,500 megawatts with Punjab witnessing 20 hours loadshedding.

National Transmiton and Despatch Company officials said that electricity production was 10,500 megawatts against demand of 16000 megawatts.

Prolonged power outages in Punjab have left people without water as the National Power Control Centre failed to curb loadshedding.

LESCO Chief Engineer Muhammad Saleem told Geo News that power shortfall reached 2,700 megawatt as electricity demand had exceeded record 4500 megawatt while supply stood at 1800 megawatt.

He claimed that ‘forced’ loadshedding could be overcome if the National Power Control Centre stopped its meddling.

The LESCO chief appealed to the people to reduce consumption of electricity.

According to the sources in the NTDC, more than 11 power houses were not functioning due to non-supply of oil, gas and water.
