Police fail to arrest Malik Riaz’s granddaughter

Staff Report

LAHORE: Despite a lapse of one month, Aminabad police have failed to arrest the granddaughter of property tycoon Malik Riaz and her two guards who allegedly killed an innocent citizen over a minor road quarrel.

According to sources in the Punjab Police, the accused, namely Siara, the granddaughter of Bahria Town owner Malik Riaz, had a quarrel with a motorist on April 26, 2013 near Aminabad when she was on her way along with her family members and a security squad on their personal vehicles.

According to FIR 143/13 registered in Aminabad Police Station on the complaint of Muhammad Mujahid, a resident of 4-Rehman Colony, Gujaranwala, the complainant was going to visit City Housing Scheme along with his cousin Muhammad Munawar, nephew Saqib Ali and friend Adeel Butt on his car after meeting his brother Zahid who ran a property business near Chanda Qilla on April 26, 2013.

He said that as they entered the housing scheme, a black car coming from behind overtook them wrongly.

Sources said that Saqib asked the driver why he was driving so fast, on which Siara ordered her security squad to shoot the occupants of the other car. The guards fired on the car and hit the occupant Saqib Butt and his two companions.

The accused persons escaped from the scene, whereas the injured were taken to a nearby hospital where Saqib Butt passed away.

Sources further added that Aminabad police have registered an FIR against Siara and her two unidentified guards. They added that the family of the deceased has protested several times against police behaviour, but in vain. Sources said that police have failed to arrest Siara and her guards because her grandfather, Malik Riaz, is a powerful and highly influential man.
