Shahbaz to take oath for 4th term on June 6

LAHORE: The PML-N has formally nominated Shahbaz Sharif as the chief minister of Punjab for a record fourth term and he is to take oath of office on June 6.

The Punjab governor has convened a session of the provincial assembly on May 29. The legislators-elect will take oath on the first day of the session. On the second day, the assembly’s speaker and deputy speaker will be elected, while the chief minister for the province of 90 million will be formally elected on the third day. Punjab caretaker Chief Minister Najam Sethi has said that Shahbaz Sharif will take oath as chief minister on June 6. Talking to the media on Sunday, he said the process of transfer of government would be completed by the oath-taking of the new chief minister.

In a separate development, Dr Ghulam Arbab Raheem, former chief minister of Sindh and head of the Peoples Muslim League (PML) who won a seat in recent elections, has announced to merge his party with the PML-N. On Sunday, Arbab Raheem held a meeting with Shahbaz Sharif at his residence in Raiwind and showed his confidence in the leadership of the party under the command of Nawaz Sharif. The PML of Arbab has won only one seat from Sindh, that of himself from his own constituency. Arbab has served as chief minister of Sindh during the military regime of Pervez Musharraf and is considered a close aide of him. agencies/staff report
