PTI on the move for a strong joint opposition

Staff Report

LAHORE: Four strongmen of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have started lobbing with the newly elected parliamentarians of all parties to emerge as a strong opposition and give a tough time to the upcoming government of the PML-N in the Centre.

Sources said that the PTI leadership gave the task of party’s top four leaders – Javed Hashmi, Shah Mehmood Quershi, Janhgir Tareen and Dr Arif Alvi – to contact the winning candidates of all parties and try to convince them on the point that with their support, they could perform the role of an actual opposition in the parliament.

In this regard, sources said that the PTI leaders contacted as well as met some elected parliamentarians of different parties and some of them themselves contacted the PTI leaders to assure their support in the National Assembly.

PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said the party would play the role of a responsible, effective and vibrant opposition in the National Assembly. He further said that the ECP should pay heed to PTI’s demands because they would be helpful in by-elections, local government elections and the next general election.
