PPP puts democratic process before itself: Kaira
LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Central Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that continuity of the democratic process in Pakistan was more important for the PPP.
He categorically said in a press release issued on Sunday that the PPP would support any move of the future democratic government that promotes the cause of democracy, and oppose all steps aimed at jeopardising the national cause. Kaira said that the PPP’s support to the future democratic PML-N government was based on the continuation of the process of “consolidation of democratic gains” made during the PPP-led government. The PPP leader dispelled the impression about the BISP as the brainchild of the PLM-N, adding that it was conceived and planned by Benazir Bhutto and executed by the PPP-led democratic government to provide social security to the poorest of the poor. He advised the “angry old guard of the party”, Naheed Khan, to avoid criticising the president who steered the country out of crises. He said that by following the policy of reconciliation, the previous democratic government completed the constitutional term of five years for the first time in the history of the country. staff report
