MQM sees Karachi power crisis as ‘artificial’

KARACHI: The Coordination Committee of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) on Monday said the MQM considered current power crisis in the city as artificial and any loss in its wake will impact at the national level.
The committee also called for adopting a national approach in resolving water and power crisis in the metropolis.
Addressing a press conference at its headquarters in Azizabad, MQM senior leader Haider Abbas Rizvi alleged that an artificial power crisis was being created to cover up the fact that most of the gas reserves of Sindh were being transferred to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL). Rizvi said the financial discrepancies between Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) and Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) were reported in the past and subsequently resolved through better financial management. He asked why was gas supply was being reduced in the hottest months of the year, he asked.
