SHC suggests three names for provincial election tribunals
KARACHI: Sindh High Court (SHC) on the Tuesday proposed the names of three former district and sessions’ judges for the three election tribunals set up in the province. The SHC Registrar had put a note to Chief Justice Mushir Alam in which he expressed reservations about the formation of the Election Tribunals. He said that a notification for the tribunals was issued without consulting with provincial high court. It was contended the Supreme Court had clearly ordered that a judicial forum could only be formed in consultation with provincial high court. Later, the SHC Registrar wrote to the ECP to withdraw heads of notified tribunals, asking it to appoint a tribunal head as per the Supreme Court decision. In response ECP informed SHC Registrar in letter that it had dissolved election tribunals. The Chief Justice SHC on Tuesday suggested three names for tribunals, Zafar Khan Sherwani in Karachi, Ashfaq Baloch in Hyderabad and Zaheer Din in Sukkur. ppi
