Durrani elected speaker, Shehla deputy in Sindh Assembly

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Agha Siraj Durrani has been elected as speaker Sindh Assembly while Shehla Raza of the same party elected deputy speaker of the Sindh Assembly by securing 87 and 86 respectively.

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidate for speaker Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan and deputy speaker Heera Ismail got 48 votes while Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate for speaker Ifranullah Marwat and Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F) candidate for deputy speaker secured 18 votes each.

Outgoing speaker Nisar Khoro administered oath to Agah Siraj Durrani who has become the sixteenth speaker of the provincial assembly while latter administered oath to the deputy speaker Shehla Raza.

Earlier, The election for the deputy speaker was stopped after it was discovered that Agah Siraj Durrani's name had been printed instead of Shehla Raza's on the ballot paper. After hearing arguments in this regard, Durrani ordered re-polling.
